I worked on a two-year contract as an Associate Editor for HMICFRS, the national inspectorate of police and fire services.
Details
In this role, I edited a range of reports on individual police and fire services, as well as longer thematic reports on wider issues.
This included sensitive reports into nationally significant issues which received substantial media coverage.
I worked directly with report authors and senior managers to improve readability and precision, as well as clarifying facts. This involved removing jargon to convey complex subject matter in clear English, without losing nuance. My work helped the inspectorate communicate specialist information in a way that made an impact with a wide audience.
